NatureServe Coastal and Marine Strategy
Ocean acidification, overfishing, habitat destruction, pollution, invasive species, energy development, climate change—the prospects for the health of the world's oceans look bleak in the face of such global and pervasive threats. But gaps in scientific knowledge about coastal and marine species and ecosystems are an obstacle to effective conservation action and resource management.
The NatureServe network is uniquely positioned to bring together the methods, tools, and scientific data needed to respond to disasters, understand and abate threats, restore ecosystems, and rebuild resilient coastlines. On the occasion of World Oceans Day, we're pleased to release the executive summary of our just-completed Coastal and Marine Strategy, which details how—working with our network members and other partners—we will contribute our expertise in biodiversity and conservation science to the protection and management to coastal and marine species and habitats.
