On April 24, at the Biodiversity Without Boundaries conference dinner, NatureServe presented William D. Ruckelshaus with the 2012 NatureServe Conservation Award. The honor recognizes Ruckelshaus’ commitment to science as a guide to policy in both the public and private sectors, and the unique character, scale, and diversity of his contributions to the protection of the natural environment.

Valuing Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services

Dr. Bob Costanza, distinguished university professor of sustainability at Portland State University’s Institute for Sustainable Solutions, is a leading expert on ecosystem services. His keynote address at Biodiversity Without Boundaries focuses on the challenges and opportunities of valuing ecosystem services under a “full world” model of the ecological economic system that emphasizes well-being and quality of life (all life).
