Why We Give – Sherry Huber
Sherry Huber
Since 1996, Sherry Huber has been the executive director of the Maine TREE Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on environmental education about the Maine forest. Between 1989 and 1995 she served as executive director of the Maine Waste Management Agency and has been a consultant to non-profit organizations for fundraising and development. She spent a ten-year term on the national board of governors of The Nature Conservancy and recently completed her second ten-year term on the board of The Nature Conservancy, Maine Chapter.
Elected to the Maine House of Representatives for three terms beginning in 1976, Ms. Huber twice ran as a candidate for governor, first as a Republican in 1982, and then as an independent in 1986. Long an active supporter of various environmental and conservation organizations, she remains one, currently serving as vice-chair of the Land Trust Alliance's board of directors; chair of the board of directors of the Mainewatch Institute; member of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies' Leadership Council; and member of the University of Maine School of Law Board of Visitors.
A graduate of Smith College, Ms. Huber received the Down East Magazine Environmental Award for a lifetime of work on behalf of Maine's environment in 2002.
