Kathleen Goodin is the Director of the Coastal and Marine Program and the Chief of Staff for the Conservation Science Division. In her role as Chief of Staff, she oversees the Science Information Resources Department, the group that manages NatureServe’s central biological data, and manages the operations of the division. Since 1991, Kathleen has coordinated the development of national and international standards for terrestrial and marine ecological habitat classification, characterization, observation data standards, data management, and analysis. She develops projects and tools that support the application and mapping of that standard.
Previously, Kathleen served as the Lead Editor of the Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS,) the United States federal standard for describing and mapping marine ecosystems. She holds a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Miami, Florida, and a Bachelor’s in Biology and Environmental Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is currently active in developing methods and tools that support the identification, management, and visualization of marine habitat condition and ecosystem services indicators.
