Board Bio: Dick Raines

Dick Raines is president of Carfax, the vehicle history information company. Dick joined Carfax in 1993 and has shepherded its growth from a small, six-person start-up to a nationally-branded Internet business with more than 600 employees. 

Before Carfax, Dick led various database businesses including Blackburn Marketing Services, Urban Decision Services (demographics), National Research Bureau (shopping center data), and Claritas (target marketing). Earlier in his career, Dick worked at MCI, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and helped found Agua del Pueblo, a nonprofit drinking-water organization based in Guatemala.

Dick has been active in various conservation organizations and has served on the boards of The Potomac Conservancy (past chair), American Bird Conservancy (current vice-chair), Virginia League of Conservation Voters (board member), Clean Air-Cool Planet (board member), and the Finger Lakes Land Trust (Advisory board). 

Dick is an avid outdoor enthusiast and dabbles in birdwatching, flyfishing, hiking the Appalachian Trail, mountain climbing, frisbee golf, and dog-walking. He spends most of his free time at his country place in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
